So, I took Funcom up on their 7-day trial for Age of Conan. Love the attitude of the game, but the combat system, while interesting, just didn't grab me like other games do (although fatalities are pretty damn cool.) There are other aspects about the game that I enjoyed, but finances, computer and time won't permit me to buy it right now. I tried out a few of the classes, and the ones that seemed the most fun for me were the Stygian Tempest of Set (healer) and Aquilonian Dark Templar (kind of a mix of tank and healer, akin to the EQ Shadow Knight, without the pet.)

This was also a chance to give Sabreyn's Allie a test run, and I like her. As I did this render under DS, though, I had to use the texture from another character, but she still came out rather nice looking. I also did quite a bit of postworking on this, specifically painting the blood (which didn't come out quite as well as I'd have liked. Then again, first time trying something that extensive.)

Also, this image is a High-Res one, so click the download link to see it in all it's glory.

Enjoy and appreciate in advance any comments, advice and critiques. :)

very good work she is proud of her victory so the teeth do look good sword should be a little less brite
(blood dripping off it would do it) showing her prowess so shield looks good as you have it

Over all I enjoy this image and downloading the hi-res version of it really lets you see some of the great details. There are a couple of things that stand out for me though on this.

Over all the atmosphere of the picture is dark and brooding (which is perfect for it) but the barbarian's sword and especially her teeth are very shiny and draw my eye away from everything else. A little burn on them would help them fit in with the over all image better.

Just a personal preference but I would have turned the shield to face the audience so you could see the texture as there is not much of one on the back.

Lastly I agree with you that doing blood is not easy but you did a great job for the first time. If you are using Photoshop to do your post work I recommend "Rons Stain Splatter Drips & Wash" which can be found here [link] Deviney creates some really great brushes for that.

There was something I thought was a bit off, and now that you mention the sword and teeth, I see what it was now. As for the shield, I had enough of an issue with it that I just left it as it was. (Sometimes my frustration wins out over my patience. LOL)

I really didn't think (still don't, actually) I did that great of a job with the blood, but it was actually a lot of fun trying. As I said, I actually got to try the game (I wasn't even sure if my system would run it, but it does and pretty well), and it's a bloody (literally and figuratively) fun time. So, I felt the blood was a bit necessary. :) Thanks for boosting my confidence on the postwork. :)

Actually...DTs can be feated to have a pet, but it's only around for about a minute. Still really helps with damage output (and DTs need that bad).

Rare to see AoC inspired art. Nicely done.

Did not know that, though being a trial, I only got to around 17 or 18.

Thanks for the kind words! :)
