Downtime

Fri Jun 5, 2009, 11:04 AM
So, the past couple weeks I could have done without, but I am glad that they're over. The trip to Atlanta was good. Had a relatively good flight down (relatively, because being transported in a sardine can known as a Boeing 717 makes good a bit of a stretch). Got to see my youngest daughter for the first time in over a year, and witnessed her life milestone of graduating from high school (Northview High School, in northwest Atlanta). The trip home was round about, and annoying. (Atlanta->Orlando->Milwaukee->Kansas City) And got home just in time to sleep a couple hours and then start moving.

I rather like my new place. It's kinda small, but enough for Blazer (my German Shepherd Dog) and I. There are some issues with it that I'm getting worked out, but everything is pretty much either unpacked or stowed away, and things are coming together.

The only downsides I've experienced for the last couple of weeks is the pains that come from working more than I'm used to, and the fact that my boss was kind enough to let me have a week of time off and only use 10 vacation hours, but worked me half to death before and after. In fact, I was working right up until 10 hours before my flight to Atlanta (off at 8 AM, flight at 4 PM), and didn't get any sleep because I had things to do around the house so that there would be minimal I'd have to do on my return and move, had to run the dog to the vet for kenneling (45 minute trip), trip to Independence so that Mom could drive me to the airport and watch my car while I was gone (2 hours); so, by the time I got to Atlanta, I was just about a freakin' zombie.

One thing I should mention: This has been one hell of a rough month for my dog. At the beginning of May, we were a 2 human, 3 dog family. But, my niece got her dog back (that we were watching), my mom had to give her dog up to a nice family (Blazer's buddy...a Japanese Chin), Mom moved out a week later, then he was kenneled for about a week while I was gone. And, to top it all off, he never got to see the old house again, just picked him up and took him straight to the new place. Since, he's been attached to my hip anywhere I go in the house, is really demanding of attention, and if I have to leave to run an errand or go to work, he gets seperation anxiety very badly. But, he's slowly getting used to the new routine. (Now, if I can just convince him that he's got a big backyard all to himself and that he can't abscond out the front door and roam the neighborhood, we'll do great! :D )
